Tammy Wynette

Tammy Wynette’s country song hit “Stand By Your Man” inspires this exercise. Starting Position: PAX 1 assumes the merkin plank while PAX 2 stands beside "his man."

Exercise: PAX 1 performs merkins in sync with PAX 2, who does deep squats. Complete 10 reps either by Q call or on their own. At multiples of 10, partners switch, alternating between merkins and squats. For example: 1, 2, 3…10 (switch) 11, 12, 13…20 (switch) 21, 22, 23…30 (switch)

Continue until reaching 200 reps, with 100 merkins and 100 squats per person. On each switch, the merkin participant should explode off the deck, similar to the 5-6 count of a burpee. The Q may substitute other standing or ground exercises as desired. An entire routine could consist of multiple “Tammy Wynettes.”
